I've seen CE's use an 80 column card (5081 I think) to adjust the gap
between the read/write head and the "thing" that slides down over the
head.
I think 2401's had these, I'm sure there were others.
Are the match book covers used for the same thing?

You will still need, in addition to the RPQ, a match book cover for
precise tape alignment. :)
If you put on bell bottoms and platform shoes, it will improve your
chances dramatically.
