Well, I wouldn't go down the road of comparing one linux in an lpar to one linux virtual machine in an lpar running z/VM. The strength of running z/VM, well, one of the main ones, is in its ability to run many linux critters simultaneously. I'd be very careful about what such a comparison intends to show, and will show.
I've heard various numbers lately 'bout vm overhead. In my experience on z9 class machines, I'm putting it in the less than 5% range, including CP overhead AND CMS overhead (CMS servers doing systems work). Other numbers I've seen put it higher, but I don't. I see. How many virtual linux servers run DB apps on VM? more than 1? We have z/VM, but I am interested in seeing if there is any performance difference in running a our database apps in LPAR mode rather than on z/VM. IBM has very generous loaner terms for z/VM. All you have to do is ask your IBM rep (nicely). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
