The first several iterations of the zmd agent were resource hogs. Novell engineering has done work on this to make this better in ZLM7.2 although I have not tested this on z.
There is no interaction between ZLM and z/VM. An agent is installed on each SLES instance which then will look to the ZLM server for package management.
