Lionel,
QIOASSIST has an effect on the zfcp driver and the network qeth driver,
since it provides a more efficient way to exploit the QDIO-architecture
when running Linux on z/VM. Unfortunately the current SLES10 Linux on
System z implementation contains a bug, which may result in traffic stall
conditions. This week we have provided a fix, which will be picked up by
the distributors. That means in future SLES10-versions there will no longer
be a need to disable QIOASSIST.
For now, disabling QIOASSIST means to switch back to the traditional usage
of QDIO. Thus the only disadvantage of disabling QIOASSIST for Linux under
z/VM is the non-exploitation of this z/VM feature.
Best regards,
Ursula Braun

We have been told to disable qioassist (#cp set qioassist off guest-name)
to resolve an issue with SLES10 (and we have to get sles10 sp1).
My question is: What are the disadvantages of doing so and what is the
best way to do so (on a guest by guest basis by placing the command in the
profile exec - or on a system wide basis and if so how)
Thanks
