Cfengine is a brilliant piece of work, but this isn't quite the problem for which it was built.
Don't even get me started. Cfengine is fine when it's working. The problem is, its error messages range from misleading to outright pathological lies. When "file not found" is reported back to the user as a key authentication problem, there's something wrong with the design. Twice I've had to actually strace the cfengine process to figure out what was *really* wrong.
