Be kind when helping me, please: We're setting up a pure IPv6 network.
The cable has now been plugged into the OSA adapter. It seems my next
step is to connect that OSA adapter to a Virtual Switch, so that many
Linux and z/VM servers (among others) can get to the IPv6 network.
With IPv4 we had an entry in SYSTEM CONFIG:
Define VSwitch INTRANET RDev 6100 Connect Controller TCPIPOSA IP
Nonrouter
However I see usage notes which remind me:
IP|ETHernet
indicates whether the transport for the virtual switch is ETHERNET
or IP.
An ETHERNET virtual switch operates at the Layer 2 level of the OSI
model
while an IP virtual switch operates at Layer 3.
And:
4. The IP transport type is IPv4 only. In order to support IPv6
through
the virtual switch RDEV, the ETHERNET transport is required.
This leads me to believe that I need a VSwitch similar to:
Define VSwitch INTRAV6 RDev 6C00 Connect Controller TCPIPOSA Ethernet
However, in doing so I'm not clear how, in Linux for zSeries, to
configure the IP stack. The IBM Device Drivers doc seems to imply that
I should be setting the "layer2" attribute of the qeth driver. Is that
so? Or am I walking down a path with really isn't ideal?
Advice please. Working examples are particularly appreciated. :-)
