And never assume its not, please :-) Rick, I know that you have enough knowledge about disk formats. And people trust you, because they know you have a lot of experience. So when you make a suggestion on a mailing list that is valid in this scenario, but has the potential to harm data on other systems I think it needs a warning. You wrote your suggestion without a warning and not everybody has the knowledge about the technical details of disk layouts. To explain my warning, we had customers doing exactly this on CDL disks because it works everywhere else. If people are used to do that (because it works on CMS formatted mini disk, ATA/SATA whatever) they will do so on CDL disks as well. My experience says that enough Linux on z installations have CDL (Yast formats using CDL for example) to make this suggestions dangerous.
