Part of this is a cultural problem. AIX is Unix to users, but at the level of admin tools it's very different. The deeper you go the more it diverges. Experienced AIX admins are going to have trouble doing simple things on Linux because the tools they've learned aren't there. (The same is true of a Solaris or HP-UX expert moving to AIX---I learned that the hard way.) Something as good or better exists in most cases, but you have to find it. If you had someone with Solaris but no Linux experience the learning experience will go a lot more smoothly. The choice of software for z/Linux might be a problem; if they use Veritas Volume Manager or Netbackup you're going to have to find a replacement which may not work as well. But Marcy's right: Wells has a lot of critical apps on Linux (both Intel and z-series) and the company as a whole is trying to get more of our Unix applications moved over all the time.
