If I understand what you are asking, then any OS which wants to use the DIAG interface under z/VM can do so. I know that z/OS does not use any DIAG I/O. I know that CMS uses only DIAG for I/O. I think that z/Linux can use either, depending on which I/O module you set up to load at boot time. If you are asking about how DIAG I/O relates to allowing z/OS to access z/Linux DASD, say for backup purposes, then there is no relationship at all. DIAG I/O does not do anything to change how the data appears on the actual DASD device. Neither does DIAG I/O allow for simultaneously sharing of z/Linux DASD between guests or between a guest and another LPAR. There is, in general, __NO__ safe way to share DASD between z/Linux instances, except in READ-ONLY mode. -- John McKown Senior Systems Programmer HealthMarkets Keeping the Promise of Affordable Coverage Administrative Services Group Information Technology The information contained in this e-mail message may be privileged and/or confidential.
