The core utility is supplied by IBM, it is called WAKEUP. But to make it easy, do to the IBM Downloads webpage and get the RXServer package (http://www.vm.ibm.com/download/packages/descript.cgi?RXSERVER). This is a template for general purpose service virtual machines. One sample in the package is VMUTIL, a timer driven automation server.
WAKEUP as the core utility is not as flexible in timer definitions as is CRON or other vendor products, but it is free and by invoking rexx programs instead of direct FORCE, XAUTOLOG, SIGNAL SHUTDOWN commands, you can program in some of the first week of the month type of scheduling. Is there a free and easy zVM scheduling automation tool that anyone would recommend for a new user of zVM and Linux? This would be used to: -- quiescing linux servers -- shutting them down. restarting them. -- forcing off perfsvm... restarting it... -- perhaps triggering a user who's profile contains a an exec that does some rexx stuff simple stuff. Thank you.
