Fortunate are those who can spare a pack (actually a spare pack in the
past) to hold a one-pack VM system that has access to a copy of the
directory and any other goodies you might need when someone calls you
in the middle of the night.

Now that I think of it - it's nasty if CP really flags the slots as
in-use when it could not page out to the disk. If it had not done so,
you could simply drain the volume and format it since no harm would
have been done yet. Now you need to logoff the Linux servers to free
up the slots (if that even works).
