Creating a technical reputation is an important part of successfully
marketing to folks like us. One of the reasons Novell does so well here
(and Red Hat is still playing catchup, regardless of how well Brad
Hinson does his job) is that SuSE (and then Novell) invested a lot of
people and time in helping people in public, early and often. This makes
a big difference in perception.

In general, a suggestion that might work for you in the future: put
anything remotely "ad-y" outside the forum, and comment that:

"We've introduced an interesting new widget for frobnicating feezils. If
you're interested in more details, see http://www.fubar.org/feezilfrob.";

and leave it at that. That generally doesn't upset people as much as
naked marketing-speak.
