Yes. Yes, people have. It usually happens for licensing reasons. Either because IFLs are cheaper than CPs or because Linux licensing, even on Z, follows the vendor's Open Systems licensing structures rather than their mainframe licensing structures, and is thus a lot cheaper.
But so far I have to report that no one is doing this except one shop.
I have seen more than one shop do this, and helped more than one shop retool to be able to do this. No, I can't tell you who.
