Oracle (like most products, including databases) runs better on more than one processor. Most of my customers running Oracle on running on Linux guests with 2 processors (sometimes more). At the zSeries Oracle SIG last year there was one customer who was running single Oracle images on 32 IFLs. I have forwarded your note to our Oracle on z team asking them to get in contact with you on this.
