Hmmm.  Looks like backspacing is broken.
There are a number of Storage Daemon configuration options you may try.

BSF at EOM = Yes and TWO EOF = Yes seem like good ideas.

You might try Backward Space Record = No (and maybe Backward Space
File = No); this will slow performance but may let it reposition
correctly.

Also, I assume that your other tape tools are able to do this kind of
stuff?  I mean, it'd be frustrating to spend a lot of time only to
find out that your drive was out of alignment and wasn't really
rewinding accurately so your backwards repositions were, in fact,
broken.
