Hi All

I have now attached the tape to my Linux guest as MULTIUSER.

But I can't use the GIVE command to Give it to the Guest running the
Baculatm script on VM

att 600 dlient 181 multi (Dlient is my
Linux Guest)
DLIENT : TAPE 0600 ATTACHED TO DLIENT 0181

TAPE 0600 ATTACHED TO DLIENT 0181

Ready; T=0.01/0.01 11:28:53

DLIENT : TAPE_CORE: tape device 0.0.0181 found

DLIENT : TAPE_CORE: (0.0.0181): Tape is unloaded

DLIENT : TAPE_BLOCK: Detecting media size...

DLIENT : TAPE_34XX: The drive is not ready.

DLIENT : TAPE_CORE: (0.0.0181): Tape has been mounted

give 600 from dlient to * as 181 return leave

HCPGIV1118E Device 600 was not given. GIVE can not be performed on a
device attached MULTIUSER.

Ready(01118); T=0.01/0.01 11:30:15

However when I attach it as Single user I can Give it to another Guest,
but when it returns it has GONE form the Linux Guest.
This works but I then have to chccwdev -e from linux

give 600 from dlient to * as 181 return leave
DLIENT : Tape 600 given to MAINT 181
Tape 181 attached
Ready; T=0.01/0.01 11:24:50
det 181
DLIENT : Tape 0181 returned
TAPE 0181 DETACHED
Ready; T=0.01/0.01 11:27:20
DLIENT : TAPE_CORE: tape device 0.0.0181 found

What's the point of attaching a device as multiuser if you can't give
it to another guest, without detaching it first; I'm obviously missing
the plot?

Actually, you do. The description was in the PDF file in the tarball.
The info on the CP ATTACH command is in HELP CP ATTACH and the VM
manuals.

Sorry; MULTIUSER was the option I was thinking of.
