It's what we run our production WebSphere on. The IBM JDK passes all of the
'looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, swims like a duck' tests that Sun
requires such things to pass, so unless your Java people want the absolute
bleeding edge sun JDK, I think it would be fine.

Hello
We are an old z/OS mainframe site with a team expert in RedHat on Intel.
We have a z800 with a couple of IFLs, so thought it useful to try z/Linux.
I am a CICS systems programmer, who used VM around 20 years ago, and with no
Linux experience.
We have been struggling to get to grips with z/VM and virtual Linux servers.
Guess most of our problems are due to VM skills being very rusty, and the
inflexiblity of the Linux technicians in getting invloved with the project.
I currently have a couple of virtual RedHat 5 zLinux virtual machines set up,
and need to install Java.
Our Linux techs say we must have Sun Java, the developers want Java
1.5.0_05-b05, but my trawl of the web suggests that Sun Java is not available in
z/Linux! Looks like I can download Java from IBM:
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/linux/download.html

but will this be good enough for our picky developers?

Can anyone give advice?

Yours hopefully
John Cousins
