Hi Bobby,

I don't see a record of this being reported to support. Please let us
at Innovation know when you have questions or concerns so we can assist you.

I would like to see the complete MVS job output as there should be some
indications in it why FDR doesn't like this volume. The sysout and
joblog are very important here. If there is a dump from this, it
probably won't show anything, so there is no need to send it at this time.

The most likely reason is that MVS can't properly see this volume either
because it is not VARY'd ONLINE or that the MVS "dummy" VTOC is not
located in the correct location on the volume.

Thanks,
Joe Butz

Subject: dasdfmt -d cdl and FDR volume backup

We are finally getting rolling on our Zlinux project under z/VM. It is
our understanding that formating a 3390-3 with dasdfmt -d cdl should
allow us to then backup this volume with FDR. That's what the man pages
say and I heard it at Share. We tried it and the FDR is falling with a
user abend U888 complaining about the vtoc. I used the following to format:

dasdfmt -b 4096 -d cdl -f /dev/dasdk -l LNX009 -p -y

What have I missed?

Thanks
