Obviously I need a new computer, but probably your configuration was
relatively simple.

I've just been building kernels (rpm-sized Fedora nines) on a Core2 Duo
with 64-bit Linux. Takes around an hour per kernel.

Hand-configured to what I think I need was 2-5 minutes.
