Is the CCC support (which as the RFC you quoted notes is not guaranteed) a critical feature for you? (I ask because I don't know for sure if vsftpd supports it or not.) Probably the easiest way to find out is to install the RPM and try it, since you're already at SLES10 SP1. (You probably shouldn't call it SUSE SLES 10.1 since that might confuse some people into thinking you're talking about openSUSE 10.1.) It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to try it out.
