On my VM system, I have a LPD server setup to field LPR requests from other
systems. That is, when another platform wants something done, it does a LPR to
the VM system. The CMS server has a REXX program running with a WAKEUP on
reader. The file comes in, wakes up the CMS process, which reads the reader
queue and does what was requested.

I think many VM shops do this type of process.

Anyway, I'm trying to do the same thing in zLinux (SUSE 10).

I was going to setup CUPS to field LPR requests from other platforms. But then
I started thinking how I was going to get a Regina script fired off, each time
a file was received. Is there a way to do this?

I was trying to keep away from FTP (as the server would have to wake up and
scan for files) or REXEC as I need to pass a few cards of information (wouldn't
fit on a single command line). I would also like to make this look like the
process that we currently use for VM (of course, that may be a very unique
process).

Has anyone tried this on a Linux system? Or do I need to reconsider my options?

Thanks
