Apparently you have to update /etc/zipl.conf manually. I would have thought
that Yast would have updated it when I changed the boot volume using the
partitioner.

After updating /etc/zipl.conf manually,
mkinitrd
zipl

I booted the image and it did come up with the by-path method.
Then took it down and flashcopied it and booted the copy.
And it came up, just like I wanted in the first place.

Booting the flashcopied version was just to test that the flashcopy worked
fine. Turns out that it was a good thing. My from system had a minidisk of
10015 cylinders and the to system had 10016 cylinders. SUSE 10 sure cared that
it found another cylinder. VM and VSE sure don't care. From their point of
view, you just wasted a cylinder. But SUSE errored out all over the place.

It *should* be doing it....well, a file should be created next to the
current zipl.conf that does it. Send me the contents of your
zipl.conf and I'll take a look. I've had a problem with my regexp not
matching all the reasonable parmlines before; this might be the same.
