VM volumes: use ICKDSF, either from VM native or zOS. 1b. doesn't really matter as long as they are minidisks and you do full volumes backups. > 2. What is the best way [considering the Oracle DBs] to backup and restore > the VM and Linux images for disaster > recovery. No experience with Oracle on Linux for zSeries. But we do backup other Oracles with TSM. > 3. Should we use TSM [already installed on zOS] to backup the Linux images > to zOS. We use TSM for Linux file backups, but with TSM on Linux. Once you're into Linux moving TSM there from z/OS will probably save you a bundle, even if you have to purchase new FCP based tape hardware. (Rather cheap these days. We have a smallish TS3310 library with 4x LTO4 drives that cost us about 40.000 Euro for about 160TB. We also have a more expensive TS3500 with both LTO3 and Ficon attached 3592) For full volumes backups we use VM DDR, but you could equally well use DFDSS. We backup on the VM side because we are a very restricted (in knowledge) zOS site. Besides we don't like sharing volumes over Lpars. Paranoia I guess ;-) Best regards, Pieter Harder [email protected] tel +31-73-6837133 / +31-6-47272537 Brabant Water N.V.
