The following is an extract from announcement letter ENUS108-754 for the
US and ENUSZG08-0843
for EMEA issued on October 21, 2008:

"62% price reduction on Memory for System z10 BC or EC when purchased
after October 21, 2008,
and with a Specialty Engine(1) for new workloads, now $2,250 per GB(2).

(1) Prices are stated in U.S. currency for the U.S. and may vary by
country. Specialty Engines
do not include Internal Coupling Facilities (ICFs).

(2) Limited to 16 GB per Specialty Engine "

The following URL refers to the Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) IBM
web page

http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/z/os/linux/solutions/ifl.html

This is a section from "Highlights"

"62% price reduction on memory for System z10 BC or z10 EC when
purchased after October 21, 2008
- now $2,250 per GB(3) for the first 16 GB of a new workload on an IFL

(3)Limited to 16GB per Specialty Engine "

When compared with the paragraph from the US and EMEA announcement
letters of October 21, 2008
you will notice that the requirement to purchase a specialty engine has
been omitted. Does this
now mean that I can purchase 16GB of memory at the cheaper price to use
with my first installation
of z/VM and Linux (a new workload) on an IFL which I have installed
(cannot use it because all available
memory is used by z/OS)? Comments anybody.
