True, But 8 mod 54s are not terribly awful since dasdfmt (yast) invokes up to 8 at a time. Do it before you go to lunch and finish up when you get back. And some vendors DASD formats way way way faster than others...
We gave up on 9's. Pretty much going to be all 54's for Linux and 27s for CMS stuff except for paging vols (using the leftover spots). Running out of UCB numbers here.
