I have found that z/VM Backup and Restore Manger application is a great tool for creating image backups of our zLinux and system dasd. We keep one set of tapes on site and keep the offsite set of tapes at a remote location.
We supplement these image backups with Tivoli Storage Manager Clients running in each of our zLinux guest to allow for file level incremental backups. Thanks, Detro Senior IT Specialist 1177 S. It is in the June 2008 z/OS V1R9.0 System z Platform Test Report for z/OS and Linux Virtual Serverstest report located at http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/services/platformtest/servers/systemz_library.html . Chapter 23.2 is where the Backup and Restore Manager info starts.
