One gotcha I ran into was in the PROFILE TCPIP in VM, the LINK statement for
the VSWITCH needed to be changed to specify ETHERNET from IP. IP is the default.
May not have anything to do with this error but something to check.

Subject: Layer 2 VSWITCH and SUSE 10 starter system problems

Hello list,
Now that I am back from SHARE, I need to ask help from you all on the
list.

I had the Novell SUSE 10 starter system (NOVSTART) up and running using
a layer 3 VSWITCH and it worked. Our networking team wants us to run the
VSWITCH as layer 2 with VLAN aware Linux guests, so I am trying to test
that.
I have the VSWITCH set up as follows:

DEFINE VSWITCH VSWITCH1 RDEV 07D4 0794 ETH VLAN 998 PORTT TRUNK NATIVE
999
MODIFY VSWITCH VSWITCH1 GRANT NOVSTART

I have a USER DIRECT statement for the starter system with:

NICDEF 0340 TYPE QDIO DEVICE 3 LAN SYSTEM VSWITCH1

In the network parameters that get passed into the starter system, I
have changed the LAYER2 parameter from N to Y.

I get an IDX TERMINATE with cause code 0xf6, which I have read some of
the archives that said that was a layer2/layer3 mismatch error.
I am not seeing it.
ifconfig only shows the loopback defined with no network connection.

A Q NIC from the NOVSTART user after I shutdown the Linux shows:
Adapter 0340.P00 Type: QDIO Name: UNASSIGNED Devices:3
  MAC: 02-00-00-00-00-02 VSWITCH: SYSTEM VSWITCH1

A Q VSWITCH DETAILS:
: (not including the first part - the only part I am not
sure of is GVRP is enabled - the rest looks as I would expect)
:
Adapter connections:
Adapter Owner: NOVSTART NIC: 0340.P00 Name: UNASSIGNED
        Porttype: Trunk

I don't really know Linux so I don't know what to look at in Linux file
system. I could struggle through vi to manually change something if I
have to.

My understanding is that I do not need to have IP addresses associated
with the OSA ports for the VSWITCH when defined ETHERNET.

Anyone have any ideas that can get me going? Am I missing some
definition somewhere?

Thanks,
