Hi John,

one very common mistake is to enter an incorrect number for the relative
port. - Please read my previous intructions very thoroughly.
Usually the relative port 0 belongs to the TCP/IP enabled adaptor that
is used by OS/2. The next adaptors (as listed in mpts) get the numbers
from 1 incementing.

Which kind of adaptors do you ahve installed?
If you have Ethernet adaptors, there is another trick required to change
the ethernet protocol from IBM to DIX and to assign the slot numbers.
Please read chapter 3.9, pages 44 to 46 in
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg245633.pdf

Additionally you can find useful documentation here:
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg245669.pdf

I have no MP3000 any more, so I can't run a trial installation of SLES9 SP4.

With kind regards

Hey Thorsten

Below is SLES 9 list of network connection.
Not sure which applies to the MP3000 emulated adapters if any???
My definitions for them appear to be ok...
I tried option 1 and it didn't work... eth0 detected, expected tr0... which
made sense.
Tried option 2... it found some drivers and displayed the correct mac address.
But it hangs and put my machines processor at 100%.

Please select the type of your network device:
0) no network
1) OSA Token Ring (lcs)
2) OSA Ethernet
3) OSA-Gigabit Ethernet or OSA-Express Fast Ethernet
4) Channel To Channel
5) Escon
6) IUCV
8) Hipersockets
9) OSA High speed Token Ring (qdio)
10) Show subchannels and detected devices
Enter your choice (0-10):

Thanks for you help...

Hi John,

I installed a few years ago SLES 9 SP2 on a MP3000, but not long after
that the machine has retired....

Did you ever succeed in installing any other older Version on this
configured machine, to be sure, that the basic network settings are
correct? If not, the following (old) instructions might help you:

How to solve install problems related to the network adaptor on a MP3000

Open an OS/2 window on the Support Element (use Desktop on call if
you are working on an HMC) and enter mpts
     Press configure twice
Write down the adapter number of the adaptor(s) with IBM IEEE 802.2
     only(!)
Press cancel - cancel - exit

Doubleclick on Emulated I/O Configuration in the CPC configuration
menu (use Desktop on call if you are working on an HMC)
Press enter and F2 to view the active device map
Write down the addresses of the 3088 devices (e.g. 20/21 or 22/23)
(If you have to edit the device map, be sure that the device map
number corresponds to the IOCDS number!!)
Press ESC - F10 - F10 to leave without changing anything. - If you
want to save your changes, press ESC - F6 -F10.

Doubleclick on Console Actions and Network Diagnostic Information
Lookup the above noted adaptor number and its associated MAC address
     Write down this MAC address.

Doubleclick on Input/Output (I/O) Configuration in the CPC
     configuration menu.
Open the source of the appropriate IOCDS. (The IOCDS number must
correspond to the device map number!!)
Lookup the line where the UNITADD equals to the smaller address of
     the above noted 3088 device.
Write down the CUNUMBR of this line.
Lookup the line starting with IODEVICE and with the CUNUMBR as noted
above. Write down the corresponding ADDRESS. (This is the address
     required for the lcs driver.)

     after IPL:
when the Network device number is requested: enter the IODEVICE
     ADDRESS as noted above.
when the Relative port is requested: enter the adaptor number (from
     mpts)
verify whether the shown hw_address is the MAC address noted above

In this case the network adaptor is properly set up and it should work
correctly.

It is _IMPORTANT_ that you disable TCP/IP for the adaptors you want to
be emulated as LCS device and use IBM IEEE 802.2 only, nothing else.
Only for the Support Element's LAN Adaptor you need TCP/IP in addition.
Not for the adaptors to be passed through.
That has been the most common configuration error.

Subject: SUSE 9 on Mupltiprise 3000

Hey out there...

Has anyone installed SUSE 9 under z/VM 4.4 on a Multiprise 3000 (7060)???
I have the boot-strap installed and working up to the network part...
Can't ping outside the machine so I can't FTP the install back in.
Not sure how to configure... or what network interface to use... The 7060
is an odd machine...
I've tried the emulated ethernet cards, CTC to VM's IP stack, and directly
to the BUSTECH MAN (ESCON attached LCS device) that I run all of my IP
traffic through (3270 sessions and VSE's IP stack)...
All with no luck... $...@...
