Does your MVS machine have a DNS entry on your name servers? If not, try adding a hostname entry in the /etc/hosts file for the MVS IP-address. We had a similar problem on a z/VSE machine that was not known in DNS. The rexec service is always trying to resolve the IP-address to a hostname.
