We just implemented two zLinux guests just for NTP services as part of our migration from sysplex timers to server time protocol. No problems have been observed with running the ntp server and the ntp client on these quests.

We are having some customers who are starting to be sensitive to their guests not being in synch with network time. The issue isn't so much that our clock is inaccurate as that it's set to a slightly different time from all the other distributed systems their apps interact with. At one time it was not recommended to run NTP as a daemon, and for these customers today we allow them to periodically run ntpdate to synchronize their guest clocks with network time on an ad-hoc basis (generally the drift is small enough that they can do this once a week or so and stay close enough to meet their requirements). I am wondering whether there aren't new configuration options for NTP in linux that might mitigate whatever issues may have existed... for example, the ability to raise the minimum polling interval to 1024 seconds. Thoughts? ok r. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@vm.marist.edu with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@vm.marist.edu with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
