I was curious if anyone had any experience with running VERITAS
NetBackup (specifically 6.5.4) for Linux on System z (SLES10)? We've
noticed extremely high amounts of memory usage when VERITAS is running a
full back up of a server; end result is swapping to disk.

Scenario prior to full back up:

Server has approximately 1gb of free virtual memory

Server has 256mb of primary swap, not being used (VDISK)

Server has 512mb of secondary swap, not being used (VDISK)

NetBackup starts:

VERITAS ties up the 1 GB of free virtual memory, then the 256 MB of
primary VDISK is used, spilling over and using up the 512 MB of
secondary VDISK, and ends up swapping to disk. This process will last
approximately 1-2 hours while it backs up approximately 100 GB of data.
Netback is also running in multiplex mode during the full back ups.

Another note, the incremental back ups are running in non-multiplex mode
and we don't experience the same type of memory usage. The caveat
being, obviously the incremental back ups are not backing up as much
data.

We are not seeing the same type of memory issues on the x86, VMware,
etc. This issue seems to be isolated to the s390x environment? I was
curious if anyone has run into this issue before?
