Yes. > I've noticed that > the SLES 10 SP3 README says "For the installation server you need at least > SLES 9 SP4 or SLES 10 SP2 with all patches installed." Looks like that means > that only SLES 9 SP4 or SLES 10 SP2 can be upgraded to SLES 10 SP3? No. That is referring to the installation server, not the server that is the target of the upgrade. > And how > can I tell if all patches have been installed? yast -> software -> online update would be one way. "rug lu" from the command line would be the other way for a SLES10 system. > I suspect that the SLES 10 > SP2 images haven't had any fixes/patches installed since SLES 10 SP2 images > were created. Hmm. Not good in general terms. Lots of security and bug fixes come out in between service packs. > Wouldn't the SLES 10 SP3 replace anything that had patches? It should, since SP3 incorporates all the fixes that were known about from SP2 on (and that were ready in time for the SP3 freeze. > What happens if SLES 10 SP2 doesn't have all patches installed? Probably nothing bad, if you do a "down server" update. If you try to do it via online update or rug, then things get dicey. > And this > means that we cannot upgrade from SLES 9 SP3 to SLES 10 SP3 at all? I wouldn't try that anyway. Only so many upgrade scenarios can be tested, and that wasn't one of them. It might work, but if it breaks, not our problem. Upgrade to SLES9 SP4 and all the post-SP4 updates first, or do a fresh SLES10 SP3 install.
