If by 'everything' you mean getting enough information to do a bare metal restore to empty disk(s) then besides the file level backup you need to record the disk paths, types and sizes, info to recreate their partition tables, driver info, LVM layout, file system types (ext2, ext3, resier, ...) mount points, and so on.
