Note those documents are for a 2.4 kernel, not a 2.6 kernel, as used by
redhat 5 and suse 10+. When I briefly looked into /proc/sys/vm/* on my
2.6 kernel systems things are much different.

Any pointers to managing buffer and page caching behaviors on a 2.6
system? It sounds like a potentially promising approach. It doesn't
address the full scope of the issue (z/vm would still rather like
smaller guests where it's easier to bring all the necessary working sets
in) but every little bit might be of help.

disclaimer: every situation is different, test your own workloads, etc
etc.
