This is an artifact of the splitting of the kernel packages into two, "default" 
and "default-base", in combination with the order RPM decides to install 
updates to them.  When the default-base package is updated, the majority of the 
modules for the new kernel version don't exist yet.  So, when the default-base 
post-installation script rebuilds the initrd, you'll see these errors.  When 
the default package gets installed after that, the initrd gets rebuilt then as 
well, and those messages don't appear.
