I am playing around with CentOS 4.4 at the moment and after I added a disk to its LVM configuration, I ran mkinitrd and zipl. I rebooted and the LVM stuff was fine but my OSA devices aren't coming up. They're coupled to a guest LAN but when the system comes up it says it can't find the qeth device. A Q V OSA shows 340, 341, 342. Any attempts to use chccwdev -e 0.0.0340 results in "failed", an echo 1>/sys/devices/css0..../0.0.0340/online gives no error but the online value stays at 0. There is no ccwgroup link in that subdirectory and the /sys/devices/qeth/ contains nothing but detach_state. There is no 0.0.0340 entry in the /sys/bus/ccwgroup/devices/ subdirectory either. The lsmod on this system is identical to that of a system where the network is working though the use count of qdio is different:
qdio 63824 1 qeth # on non-working system qdio 63824 2 qeth # on working system The fact that things went astray after the mkinitrd/zipl is an important fact but I can't work out what may have gone wrong.
