I've played with iSCSI a little bit, but not for the operating system itself.  
I would think it should work, but can't offer much insight.  At least in SLES10 
SP3 and SLES11 there are parameters you can specify to the mkinitrd command to 
include iSCSI support in the initrd.  You might take a look at the Novell/SUSE 
documentation for storage administrators to get started.
