You can also ipl the redhat install, but boot into rescue mode instead
of the installer.

For linking the disks to another ID, we keep around a small, simple,
linux installation for exactly that purpose.  Our rescue installation
has it's disks at different slots than any of our 'normal' systems, and
no lvm, so we can mount disks from our LVM systems with no issues.
