I clobbered one of our test systems trying to move it a few days ago,
and ended up having to reinstall it. So far, so good, but now if
possible I need to restore the userids and passwords as several of them
belong to installed products (like DB2 & Oracle) as opposed to real
people. I have an old backup that I can restore to some fcp dasd (the
old and newly installed system were/are on fcp not ckd dasd). I can
also mount the restored copy of the old system onto the new system, so I
can access the data.

Now for the crucial part of this; can I copy the appropriate files from
the restored data to the new system, and will they work? If yes, what
files do I need to copy? The only files that I think I know about are
the ones named passwd and shadow in the /etc directory. Is there
anything else that I also need to copy.

Someone just reminded me that I should probably create the userids on
the new system first, so their home directories get created, and then
copy the passwd and shadow files afterwards. I'm thinking that I should
also copy the home directories for DB2, Lotus Notes, Oracle and any
other program products as well.

Can anyone tell me if there's anything else that needs to be copied or
anything else that I need to do?

Thank you
