Given that you don't have a significant existing workload, and that you're trying to add more real storage to your other LPAR, then 6GB for z/VM is a decent starting point. Reserve 1.5-2GB of that for expanded storage, since z/VM still uses that quite a bit as part of its overall virtual storage management strategy. Make sure that you get a good z/VM and Linux performance monitor. Even though 6GB is a decent starting point, when you start putting workload into that LPAR, you need to be able to measure the results and stay ahead of the curve. One good sized application guest with bad application developer choices behind it can chew up a lot of real memory pretty quickly.
