Hello listers,

Due to a problem with DB2 connect on an SLES10 SP2 guest IBM recommended
to adjust the shmmax and shmall. They are now not set, therefore the
default at 2^64. Actually, I would think this has nothing to do with the
problem, we don't see any memory problems (high memory loads, swap etc)
on the linux guest. Even more so, if anything we even could reduce
v-storage by 100M. But still, I do agree to set more realistic values.
But how to determine the best value?

Looking at recommendations for shmmax and shmall I get stuck. For
instance, some state to set shmmax to the total of memory minus 2G (or
1G or 4G). Or just set is at 2G. But our guest has 300M so such
recommendations can't be fullfilled.

Based on current settings, that are way too large, I would set shmmax to
the current memory size and shmall to shmmax / 4096. Does this make
sense?

Are there any recommendations in general that can be more realistic in
linux-390 guest systems?

Met vriendelijke groet/With kind regards,
