Hehe, you are funny :)

I know, we can handle that part, but shhhh, don't tell anyone :)

No seriously, it is ok for our purpose.
We can prove only one zLinux running as root have read-access to
the specified disks. They have to be available to z/VM, and they are
not now, so we cant just read all disks.
We need to make some dedicated volumes shared between z/OS and z/VM.

Purpose is to use the opensource ekvivilent(hmm that word looks wrong)
to S A S for reading SMF files and produce some form of statistics/reports.
Will save us lots of batch-cpu-costs.
Sadly we will still need the S A S - license, otherwise the costsavings would be
even larger.

Ok, so no-one has done it yet I guess ?

(shudder) Indeed. Reading an MVS volume that has not been specifically
created with express purpose accessing from outside of z/OS will result in
a visit from "Mr. Smith" and "Mr. Smith" (not related), from the
previously-unsuspected Data Protection Division. From your hospital room
you will find that you are unable to find such a Division in the company
org chart.... hmmm... I thought I locked my door when I left home....
