Hi all. I am new to linux and looking for some help. I have an ifl on a
z/10 running the latest z/vm on DS8100 dasd. I installed Suse sles11 and
installed a z/VSE product from IBM which runs on linux and allows you to create
virtual tapes on a linux file system. This product uses tcpip to transfer the
data from/to vse via tcpip. This linux machine is the only virtual machine
besides the 'IBM' service virtual machines running on this ifl.
I did the base install of suse setting up a vswitch on z/VM. I figured the
fastest interface between vse running in the s/390 cpu and linux running on an
ifl would be hypersockets. So I configured hsi0 in addition to eth0. eth0 is
10.52.0.0 and hsi0 is 9.52.0.0. I also setup static routing on vse and an
/etc/sysconfig/network/ifroute-hsi0 member. I restarted the Linux machine after
making the changes. Is there anything else I need to do to ensure I am only
using the hypersockets interface? I ask this question because I am disappointed
in the performance between this set up and another virtual tape server running
on windows that uses the escon interface.

ifroute-hsi0 contains:

9.52.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 hsi0

for those that know CSI's tcpip:

DEFINE LINK,ID=HIPER-B04,TYPE=OSAX,DEV=B04,DATAPATH=B0F,MTU=8192, -

    PORTNAME=HIPER-B04,FRAGMENT=NO,IPADDR=9.52.1.24

DEFINE ROUTE,ID=HIPER-B04-ROUTE,IPADDR=9.52.0.0,LINKID=HIPER-B04

Thanks in advance

Zoltan
