I failed to say in my post to make sure wherever you choose to put those logs and dumps of WAS, make sure it is on its own file system so that only WAS dies when it fills and not say your security product that also needs /var, making it a bit of a challenge for the people that need to clean it to get on. You can also set up alerting so that the pages go to the app or WAS team instead of *you*! Those heapdumps/coredumps can take you from zero to full in minutes.
