Hello listers, We have a central NFS server that has several clients. This NFS server has a filesystem used to contain SAP transports. (For the SAP folks, this is our /usr/sap/trans filesystem.) To make a long story short, these transports are what SAP uses to move program and database changes from one SAP system to another.
We are having a situation where where some of the log files associated with the transport system are getting corrupted. We are not experts on this SAP supplied transport system, but it appears that frequently when we try to "transport" some changes from our Linux system that runs the SAP ECC dev/test systems up to the next higher level, that sometimes a couple of the log files, the ALOG and ULOG get a bunch of ^@ records in the file. This causes the SAP transport system to have problems. At this point, I am trying to figure out whether this might be an NFS problem or a SAP program. Except for a few months adventure with the z/OS NFS server, NFS has just worked on both AIX and Linux. If you got the filesystem mounted, NFS was a reliable way to get data from one system to another. So what could the problem be? The SAP admin folks have opened a message with the SAP support folks. But what if it is a Linux problem? Here is a little more history. Most of the other systems that are connected to this NFS server are at the 2.6.16.60-0.89.1 or the 2.6.16.60-0.91.1 kernel levels. But we still had one set of servers that were at the 2.6.16.60-0.59 kernel level. (Let me say something here. The transport system for this set of servers was rock solid that this kernel level.) But we needed to upgrade these servers to a higher level. In an attempt to fix some other problems, the decision was made to update the dev/TST and production servers to the latest and greatest level. 2.6.16.60-0.95.1. At that level, the QA system started having hipersocket/ksoftirq problems. We contacted Novell, and they supplied a PTF which took the kernel up to 2.6.16.60-0.95.1.3954.0.PTF.746392-default. Two days after this kernel level was putting the QA/TST system, the SAP transport started experiencing corrupted files. Over the weekend, the NFS Server was updated to 2.6.16.60-0.91.1. But we still experience the corruption problems. At this point, we have not gotten the Novell folks involved. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should we backout the .95 kernel and it's PTF?
