I tried to repackage the post-install structure but ran into runtime errors
that I never had time to diagnose.

The reason for this new scheme seems to be to get us to read the license
agreement (all 50-odd pages), so a repackaging that circumvents that might be
unacceptable if it was distributed outside a single customer.

When this new packaging first appeared, I asked our IBM rep if there would be
an RPM version available as well. I never got an answer.

Subject: [LINUX-390] RPM install for the IBM JDK?

Is there any work in progress that would package the IBM JDK as a RPM? The
current setup is a real PITA in that other RPMs that need Java can't properly
detect whether Java is installed, so you get enormous piles of other stuff
pulled in as "replacements".

If we can do this, would IBM accept it?
