What messages do you get when you manually issue "mkinitrd " and then "zipl"
before you reboot?

Subject: [LINUX-390] suse 10.4 upgrade MKINITRD Problems

I am upgrading from 10.3 to 10.4 so I can "smoothly???" jump up to 11.2. I am
running into the problem that it will not run mkinitrd and I end up with my old
friend "cp wait..."

I have been bringing the boot dasd up in another server, chroot to it, and run
mkinitrd, then returning dasd to original system.

There has GOT to be a better way. I have googled and found no reasonable
(IMHO) alternative.
