You could use sar. It is made to collect data and create reports, I think
you will like it.

For the Hercules question, you can get any Linux distro compiled for s390.
If I remember correctly, both Red Hat and Suse have an "evaluation version"
that you can use free of charge, and there's Fedora and CentOS too.
If you are feeling brave, you can install Gentoo on it too. It's not that
hard, but is not like installing the other distros... And takes a lot of
time, and a lot of downloads... Basically you (the installer script on your
behalf) have to download the souce code of everything and compile
everything.
