Ann, There's a new feature on z/VM 6.2, that defines a CHPID appropriate for virtualization, named CHPIDV. Once you define that (OPTION CHPIDV ONE), z/VM will test the possibility of using zHPF outside the Guest: if the environment is appropriate, TCW calls will be made; if not, CCW (non zHPF) I/O calls will be used.

Looking for info on zHPF High Performance Ficon for z.
There appear to be hardware requirements. Firmware levels on most FICON
EXPRESS cards though FICON EXPRESS 8S may have new hardware feature.
Microcode on DS8100, DS8300 dasd also required.
Looks like a zVM 6.2 apar VM65041provides support for guests but there is
no command to disable it on zVM. The 'CP QUERY PATHS TO dasddev' can show
if it is enabled.
Found doc on disabling it on SLES11 servers. (dasd_mod.dasd=nofcx parm in
zipl.conf and load parm at boot).
Looking for similar doc for RHEL6.
Also since SLES10 and RHEL5 do not have zHPF support is it correct that
servers at these older OS levels would continue to run fine even if zHPF
support for guests is enabled by the zVM 6.2 apar.
