As Mike pointed out this entry is rife with misinformation. However I am still confused as to why I can no longer simply DDR or Flashcopy the golden DASD's. hopefully I am not further embarrassing myself....
.... From: Dean, David (I/S) Sent: Tuesday, December 03, 2013 9:45 AM To: 'Linux on 390 Port' Subject: sles11.2 mount logical volumes by path I just discovered a problem that I did not know I had. When building a new server today on 11.2 I discovered it will not allow me to choose "by path" for my logical volumes. We upgraded over 50 servers which all used "by path" with no issues and they seemed to operating fine but when I went back to check they are all mounting by name as well and I cannot change them. I caught this when I DDR'd our "golden image" and attempted to bring it up and it cannot find and mount " /dev/disk/by-path/ccw-0.0.0202-part1 / ext3 acl,user_xattr 1 1" entry in fstab. I used the zvm terminal to remove this from fstab and recreated the lvm, but this is a duct tape measure... I am confused.
